Melrose takes pride in supporting all of its athletic teams, young people sacrificing time and effort to represent the community. The Lady Raiders have enjoyed great success over the past few seasons and appreciate the community’s support.

Melrose Coaching Staff

Dave Brady : Head Coach

Coach Brady has an overall record of 183 wins and 48 losses (.792) in his ten seasons as Head Coach. Coach Brady has also been named the Division 2 Coach of the Year. Coach Brady has led the Lady Raiders to one state final, two Division 2 North titles, and four Division 2 North final appearances.

Rob Ferrante: Assistant Head Coach and JV Coach

Coach Ferrante is a key member of the coaching staff having completed ten seasons with Coach Brady. His JV teams have consistently won and provided basketball growth to younger players. Coach Ferrante is also an Assistant Football Coach at Melrose.

Lauren Doherty: Assistant Varsity Coach

Lauren has completed four years as Varsity Assistant. She is a former Lady Raider and teaches Wellness in the Melrose Public Schools.

Mike Izzo: Assistant Varsity Coach

Coach Izzo has completed his ninth season as Varsity Assistant and worked as an assistant to Coach Brady for twelve seasons.

Judy Izzo: Freshman Coach

Judy has coached the Lady Raiders freshman team for four years and was a four-year player at Keene State College. Judy is the cousin of Coach Mike Izzo.

Lady Raider Notes:

After completing the regular season 20-0, Melrose earned top seed in Division 2 North. Melrose defeated sixteenth seed Dracut from the Merrimack Valley League, league rival Belmont, and the Catholic Conference’s Bishop Fenwick to advance to the Division 2 North title game at Tsongas Arena. Melrose overcame a nine point deficit to Gloucester with six minutes remaining, but fell short, losing to the Fishermen 52-51 in the Boston Herald’s number one ‘game of the season’.

The Lady Raiders will hold their breakup dinner April 7th.

Sheylani Peddy led all scorers in the Middlesex League Girls’ All-Star game with seventeen points.

This is the final season for Melrose’s Daffinee Gym, which will be torn down as part of the construction of the new Melrose Middle School.

9 players achieved honor roll status during the season.

Coach Brady called up guards Sophomore Lauren Murray and Freshman Meghan Kirwan from the Junior Varsity for the post-season.

Alumni Notes:

Shannon Kirwan played the 2004-2005 season as starting point guard for the Bentley Falcons. Quiana Copeland played as a forward for the Providence Friars and has transferred to the Northeastern Huskies. Hannah Berg plays as a forward for the Russell Sage Lady Gators.
