"Wright Decision" and other news

Sheylani Peddy, Melrose's all-time basketball scoring leader, recently signed a letter of intent to play Division I basketball for the Wright State Raiders. Coach Rob Ferrante, former Coach Dave Brady, Mayor Rob Dolan and others participated at the signing ceremony.

Wright State plays in the Horizon League, and travels to Boston College this fall, which will allow local fans a chance to see Shey in action.

The other Lady Raider co-captain, Lynley DeAmato also recently made her college choice, opting for UMASS-Dartmouth. Peddy and DeAmato presided over a four year record of 87-7, including four consecutive Middlesex League titles, three consecutive undefeated Middlesex League seasons, three appearances at Tsongas Arena in the Division II North finals, and one appearance at the TD Banknorth Garden as Division II North Champion.

Off-season workouts have begun for interested sixth graders at the Common, most Sundays, usually starting around 5 P.M. A spirited group of players from the Travel Team, YMCA Team, and St. Mary's showed up on Mothers' Day to go through about ninety minutes of skill builiding and conditioning.

Several high school players have also participated to help the younger players and to continue developing their own skills. During last year's Spring and Summer workouts, several Lady Raider alumni also volunteered their expertise and coaching as Melrose athletes give back to the community. High school players usually work out following the younger players.

Lady Raider Notes: The new Middle School gymnasium continues under construction, and all accounts suggest that it will be a major upgrade over previous facilities.
