Stonehill Tournament

The Stonehill Tournament provides a very different look for Melrose, with competition against some of the teams south of Boston.

Melrose rolled through the first day of play, cleaning out their bracket, defeating Needham, Franklin, and Bridgewater-Raynham (B-R). And they did so without two of their starters, with Nicki Devereaux and Laura Irwin unable to play.

But today, B-R exacted a measure of revenge, eliminating the Lady Raiders 34-31, slowing the game down and turning it into a free throw shooting contest at the end. Unfortunately, Melrose struggled down the stretch from the line.

The girls had a wonderfully successful summer, winning the BC and Franklin Pierce tournaments, losing to powerful Central Catholic in the Hoops 4 Hope summer league semifinals, and gathering more valuable experience at Stonehill.

The players improved in some key areas, particularly team defense and playing against zone defenses. They'll continue to work to refine their weakness as they head into Middlesex League play this winter looking to extend their ML title string to 10.
