In the Zone Week
The annual "In the Zone" summer hoop camp kicked off today at Stoneham High School, as Melrose waits for gym construction to be completed. Former Coach Dave Brady, Assistant Head Coach Rob Ferrante, and Stoneham boys coach Bill Killilea run the camp.
The camp focuses on skill development and fundamentals, with ample opportunities for scrimmage. Eighty girls from Melrose and Stoneham compete on eight teams. Eight current or former Lady Raiders serve as counselors, including Shey Peddy, Lyn DeAmato, Meg Kirwan, Liz Lahiff, Sam Bell, Cara Lynch, Karen Sen, and Paula Sen.
Historically, campers also receive awards for effort and a variety of competitions such as 'Hot Shots' and 'Free Throw Shooting'.
Lady Raider Notes - Reliable sources report that renovations on the Marcoux Gymnasium have hit a snag. During removal of the previous floor, excessive moisture was discovered under the 'L' section of the gym. The new poured synthetic floor cannot be installed until the moisture problem resolves.
The Lady Raiders Booster Club will meet soon to continue the seamless transition between the previous to new officers.
