Tanner Tournament Final Unkind to Melrose*

The Melrose Lady Raiders looked to capture the Peabody Tanner tournament against the visiting Winnacunnet, New Hampshire squad that had won their class New Hampshire state championship last season.

Both teams are young, with Sophomore laden teams and put on a great show for their fans.

Melrose took a brief early lead on a Megan Kirwan 3 pointer, but played catch up basketball the rest of the game. Emily Clark went out near the end of 1st peroid with an ankle sprain, but was able to return to start the 3rd period. In Emily's absence, Laura Irwin came off the bench, sparking Melrose, with scoring, rebounding and aggressive play.

The teams traded hoops most of the 3rd and 4 th periods, with the lead generally within two possessions.

Another Kirwan 3 pointer with under a half minute to play brought Melrose to within 3. In the waining seconds Melrose could not get a 3 pointer to drop, and made a put back, hoping for a foul. Unfortunately for the locals, it was not to be.

Winnacunnet 53 - Melrose 52 .
