Melrose Talent Fuels Northeast in Bay State Games

The Melrose Lady Raiders presence showed today, as the Northeast finished 4-1 to move into the finals tomorrow at UMASS Boston against the West at 10 AM.

Melrose features a trio of players, Hannah Brickley, Colleen Hanscom, and Sienna Mamayek. Brickley was a North Shore League All-League Volleyball player last season as well as Middlesex League All-League selection. Hanscom pilots the point guard for the Northeast and Melrose and also is a stalwart as setter on the volleyball squad that went to the Division II North finals for the fifth consecutive season. Mamayek played the full forty minutes in the game this evening, and is another ML All-Star and volleyball standout.

Today's 68-66 win over Southeast moved Northeast into the finals, aided in large part by 11 second-half points from Hanscom, and the steady inside play of both Brickley and Mamayek. Hanscom finished the first half at Wentworth today with a 3 point buzzer-beater from near half court and brought the Northeast even with a couple of quick hoops to open the second half.

Reading's Cat Carey also was a key contributor with eight late points, including a pair from international waters en route to victory.
