Summer Tour Continues

Many of the Lady Raiders traveled to Franklin Pierce University for a summer tournament, with two flights (A and B) and generally good competition.

Melrose was in the 'A' bracket, along with teams from Keene and Lebanon, NH, Monument Mountain, Hartford VT, Somerville, MA, Shrewsbury, and Waconah. What made the tournament challenging was not only the competition, but the venue, with heat soaring near 90 and punishing humidity.

On the first day, Melrose beat a talented Keene team and a weaker Waconah team. Keene had a player purportedly in the 'Top 100' and frustrated her with a collapsing defense, holding her to six points. The Lady Raiders lost the final game of the day 33-30 with some controversial officiating and a late technical foul not helping.

On Sunday, the girls put forth a superb effort, winning FIVE games in the heat, with survival on Gatorade and guts, including a pair of wins over a very talented and tall Shrewsbury team, and a rematch with undefeated Lebanon, with Melrose coming away with a 36-30 victory.

All of the girls present made major contributions at various times, with the most remarkable accomplishment superior effort in draining and almost (as one parent described) inhumane conditions. Congratulations on the TEAM's 7-1 record and tournament championship.
