The Defense Never Rests, Melrose 51-27

Melrose traveled to Belmont and moved to 11-2, 10-1 in the Middlesex League with a 51-27 victory.

The Lady Raiders were back at full strength, although Hannah Brickley saw limited action in the contest as she recovers from illness.

Melrose got off to a slow start, with the teams deadlocked at 10 after one, and Melrose leading 23-18 at the intermission. Colleen Hanscom (8) and Laura Irwin (6), returning from the Inauguration, were the first half scoring leaders.

Melrose gradually pulled away in the second half, despite some offensive inefficiency as they couldn't match their shooting percentage from Tuesday. Nonetheless, the team's outstanding defensive effort limited the Marauders to four points in the third and five in the fourth period.

Colleen led Melrose with 17, including 7 in the fourth quarter, and Laura added 12 points. The Lady Raiders unofficially shot 6 for 11 from the free throw line.
