Summer Session Over

The core returning players from last year's team and numerous underclass prospects completed a successful summer basketball campaign.

The girls played in four tournaments at New England colleges as well as in the Medford spring and Woburn summer league. Overall, the girls had about thirty games of off-season basketball, as well as additional play for players participating in AAU basketball.

The players improved their skills, team integration, and particularly made gains rebounding and defensively. The experience gained should help prepare them for a very competitive Middlesex League, with returning tri-champions Reading and Stoneham with much of their teams intact, Winchester with a pair of talented forwards, and Woburn the dark horse to win the league.

Melrose has speed and athleticism and should thrive in an up-tempo environment.  The competition is wide open for both returning and new players to step forward and seize the opportunity to represent Melrose, which has won or tied the Middlesex League title 10 of the past 11 seasons, and won four Division II North titles during that span.
