Win over Winchester Breaks .500 Record

Melrose has quietly won five of six games, defeating Winchester (2-8) 49-27 to bring its record to 6-5.

Melrose saw 10 players score en route to the easy win.

Melrose took an 11-8 lead after the first period thanks to balanced scoring, including an early three for Shannon Lahiff, as Melrose fired in seven threes for the game.

Melrose opened up a 21-11 lead by halftime with good defense, but committed seventeen first half turnovers.

The Lady Raiders put away the game with a 19-7 third frame, highlighted by a quartet of threes including one from Lia Limone and Jill Slabacheski, and a pair by Shannon.

The fourth stanza was garbage time, as each team put up nine points. Melrose took a lot better care of the ball in the second half, with just seven turnovers.

Game analysis: The ball wouldn't drop early, but ultimately the Lady Raiders rained a parade of threes on the Sachems, in their most comfortable win of the year.

Lia Limone had eleven points to lead the scoring, adding five assists, and Shannon Lahiff chipped in nine points on a trio of treys.

If Melrose turns the corner on turnover limitation, taking care of the ball ("the ball is gold"), they have the capacity for a very successful 2011-2012.
